«The Swiss German Challenge»
I first learned about Swiss German and High German
while studying sociolinguistics in Scotland. Later, living
in Basel, I experienced how people switched languages
— speaking High German to me as a learner and Swiss
German to each other. At first, Swiss German seemed in-
comprehensible. In this course, I share strategies to help
learners of High German and/or Swiss German under-
stand this complex and fascinating linguistic landscape
and navigate their way through it.
